Incremental Backup

Only backs up files that changed since last backup. Fast and space-efficient.

Differential Backup

Backs up all changes since last full backup. Faster restore than incremental.

⚙️ Configuration

Setting Up Your First Backup

  1. Choose What to Back Up

Select the folders and data types you want to protect. We recommend starting with Documents, Pictures, and Desktop at minimum.

  2. Select Backup Destination

Choose where backups will be stored. Options include:

    • External Drive - Best option for safety
    • Network Share - Good for centralized backup
    • Secondary Internal Drive - Better than nothing, but risky
  3. Configure Options

Set preferences like compression level, file versioning, and retention policy.

  4. Test the Backup

Run a manual backup to verify everything works correctly.

💡 Pro Tip

Use the 3-2-1 rule: Keep 3 copies of your data, on 2 different media types, with 1 copy offsite. Backup Pro handles the primary backup; consider cloud storage or a second external drive for the offsite copy.

⏰ Scheduling Backups

Automatic Backup Schedule

Backup Pro can run automatically according to your preferred schedule:

Daily

Runs every day at a specific time (e.g., 2:00 AM)

Weekly

Runs on selected days of the week

On Startup

Runs when the computer boots up

On Login

Runs when you log into Windows

Configuring the Schedule

  1. Open Backup Pro settings
  2. Navigate to "Schedule" tab
  3. Enable automatic backups
  4. Choose frequency and time
  5. Optionally enable email notifications
✓ Best Practice

Schedule backups during times when you're not using the computer heavily, like early morning or lunch breaks. This minimizes performance impact.

♻️ Restoring Data

When to Restore

Restore Process

Open the application and click the "Restore" button

  2. Select Backup Set

Choose the date/time of the backup you want to restore from

  3. Choose Files

Select specific files/folders or restore everything

  4. Set Destination

Restore to original location or choose a different folder

  5. Start Restore

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is Backup Pro really free?

Yes! Backup Pro is completely free for personal and commercial use. No subscriptions, no hidden costs, no limitations.

How much disk space do I need?

Your backup destination should have at least 1.5-2x the size of the data you're backing up. Incremental backups use less space over time.

Can I backup to the cloud?

Backup Pro doesn't directly upload to cloud services, but you can backup to a folder that's synced with OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive.

What if my computer crashes during backup?

Backup Pro keeps a transaction log and can resume interrupted backups. Your existing backup data remains safe.

Can I encrypt my backups?

Yes! Enable encryption in settings. Use a strong password and store it securely - lost passwords cannot be recovered.

How many backup versions are kept?

By default, Backup Pro keeps the last 30 days of backups. You can adjust this in the retention policy settings.
